WHAT SKIN TYPE ARE YOU?

You hear a lot of makeup commercials talk about foundations for oily skin, sensitive skin, dry skin etc. But aren't you like "Wtf, are they talking about?"

A lot of friends, family, even models that I've got the chance to do their makeup don't know what type of skin they have. In fact, I took yesterday and today asking random women from all ages if they knew what skin type and out of 50 women between 13-45, 6 new and I'm NOT kidding. But let me make you more knowledgeable on this skin crap.

(I did her makeup!! model brandee ruiter)

NORMAL SKIN
  • Is not too oily or dry
  • Hardly any blemishes
  • Firm skin
OILY SKIN
  • Shiny
  • Enlarged pores and blackheads
  • Flakiness around the nose (this is due to the lack of oil in that area IRONIC I KNOW)
SENSITIVE SKIN
  • Visible vessels
  • Broken capillaries
  • DO NOT TAN
DRY SKIN
  • Flaky
  • Pores barely visible
  • Itchy (smile and frown at the same time for 15 seconds if it begins to itch, congratulations you have dry skin! Being sarcastic.)
I found this 4 question quiz that can help you determine your skin type.

MAKEUP FOR BEGINNERS 100

Since 4:40pm today I've been thinking about what my next post would be. Like always I was over thinking things and here comes friend with the simplest, humblest comment "Tita I need help with basic makeup shopping." My friend is on this whole new journey in her life reinventing herself wardrobe, makeup, and body; she lost 10lbs! And, since she is new to the whole makeup game telling her to buy some black eyeshadow, eyeliner and mascara seems a little too harsh for a beginner. So to all you ladies out there who are new to makeup as well or find yourself reinventing your persona take out your memo pads and write these tips down. (Click the links to go to the direct product).

FOUNDATION

Presuming that you've never worn foundation a tinted moisturizer is the best way to go. Though most tinted moisturizers, the good ones anyways, range from $11-$40 at even at drugstores, why not make your own?

A a great, great tip for beginners is to buy a liquid foundation and mix it with your favorite face cream; make sure your face cream or foundation has SPF, the higher the number the better to protect you from the sun rays. Use an empty cream cheese container or buy a small container with a lid and dump in your whole liquid foundation bottle and your face cream; mix it well. Make sure to use more foundation than face cream but if you see that you need more lotion just add more.

As far as what foundation goes I recommend CoverGirl. If you have sensitive skin they have no fragrance foundation; great for rocasea (post on different skin types will be on friday). I use the original foundation Clean Makeup from CoverGirl, $7, at cvs, which works wonders on anyone
BLUSH

The next part is your blush. I would normally recommend a rosy blush but then we'd have to get into the different shades of rose for different skin tones therefore I'm subbing in peach tones because they go great on any skin color. Take this Pretty Peach blush by, once again, CoverGirl, $5, cvs.com, apply it to the apples of your cheeks.

Apples? I know sounds silly but when you smile you'll see the apples, which are the roundest part on your cheeks. Apply blush starting in the middle of the apples not where it starts.

EYESHADOW
  • Most people are weary when wearing eyeshadow for the first time. Most of the time they say they looks like clowns, which is understandable for a beginner. This is why I highly suggest that all beginners dab their finger in their blush and apply it to the eyelid only.

MASCARA
  • For beginners I would recommend a brown mascara if you're scared of black looking to jawry and especially if you have blonde lashes brown would be black for you. Take your mascara wand and while you applying the mascara to your lashes smudge in the mascara. This "excess" mascara will work as an eyeliner so no need to buy eyeliner. If you make mistakes take a Q-tip and twist away the mistake. My personal favorite and highly recommend is Maybelline's Volume Express Colossal Mascara that little guy gives ANY eyelash an instant volume $8, cvs. Make sure it's NOT waterproof.

LIPS

  • Chapstick or
  • A clear lipgloss

TRY NOT TO THROW UP

Fashion In Ur Face wouldn't be fashion in your face without having to talk about...well the face. I fkn loveee Halloween like I'm seriously obsessed with it. It's the one holiday I'm most excited about. I love painting my cousins faces and transforming them into someone else apart from themselves. Most people think of Halloween as a waste of money. A time where candy companies score the big bucks but Halloween is art.Think about it Halloween is fashion and beauties biggest month, at least in my opinion.

But anyways for Halloween I was really stuck on what I was going to be. It was either a pair of black wings I had or just give out candy. Then I remembered I really wanted to try that zipper eye thing that MAC Cosmetics did for Halloween back in 2007.

I took a pair of old ripped pants that I had (I never throw them away) and took out the zipper; it was a bitch taking it out. I added my own twist by only doing one zipper on one eye. I cut the zipper to the size I wanted and then I applied eyelash glue to the material surrounding the zipper. I fanned the zipper back and forth to get the glue a little sticky for about 30-40 seconds and then I located the zipper at the root of my bottom lashes; it'll bug ya be warned. I then took red Halloween paint and colored inside the space between the zipper. Afterwords I took fake skin and began to mold it with my fingers and placed it on the paint (no glue needed). After applying the fake skin I began to add specks of yellow and purple paint. Keep in mind all this makeup and fake skin came from a Halloween makeup kit; it was about $8. I added the Vaseline (or any petroleum jelly) that I got at the Dollar Tree for $1, duh, and applied it with a Q-tip, and I also added a little bit of baby oil that I bought at the Dollar Tree; it gives the application this real slimy, really shinny fresh looking skin. Make sure not to rim your zipper eye's bottom rim with eyeliner and use a red eyeliner or lipliner DO NOT USE THE PAINT.

After being pointed at and made fun of by my friends saying, "that's what you get for giving head," (hahaha...not funny) I was really proud of my makeup. I'm not typically good at FX makeup and haven't tried to do that shit in forever but anyway whatever just check it out for yourself...

*Buy some zombie eyes !! My friend Photoshopped those for me. Also, I wanted to keep the material around the zipper but you can cut if off and still be able to apply glue.

UMMM...FKN GENIUS!

After yawning through most of the fashion shows for spring 2010 by a miracle the fashion Gods directed me to Proenza Schouler. These dudes took the surfer bro's and ho's by the balls -who sport those awful rubbery scuba diving suits- and introduced them to the 80s rocker kids.

The colour scheme for this show were definitely inspired by the surfing plot; blues, yellows, oranges, greens etc., which is perfect because the 80s had a lot of neon colors.

The collection was extremely gnarly and I was particularly stoked to see a different cut and shape for the classic dress. Take a look at the second and third outfit. The top of the dress is reminiscent of a tank top and it hugs right to the chest and then flares out. Familiar? It should be. Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough -known for their minimal and sleek looks- took minimal to an entire new level. They took the classic a-line tank and really refined it by adding their signature sleekness; pure genius.

I am really inspired and impressed. And thank the fashion God's, again, people for Proenza Schouler's vision. The spring 2010 collections are lamely repeated with obvious colors such as pastels and white; fkn borning.

Anywho, this is what I have to say so far. I will be posting, hopefully, more often at least 3 times a week? But if you want daily news on fashion you can follow me and check out my postings on www.omgeemag.com or sign up to the omgee all access community where I do daily fashion newsletter. Gotta go.
